Site Registration
General information
In this page it is possible to register new sites in the database providing few information that are needed to create your accounts and to add your site to the list. Registering a site in the European Fluxes Database will give first of all visibility to your site and increase the possibilities to be involved in projects and scientific activities. In addition, this database is directly coordinated with the FLUXNET database and your site will appear also there. Finally the registration is the first step to share data with others colleagues and to participate to the synthesis activities organized in the FLUXNET context (see www.fluxdata.org). This online form has been also created to organize and updated inventory of fluxes measurements in Europe in the context of the COST Action ABBA ES0804.
Please note that the site registration to the database is not linked to data submission or data sharing. You can decide if, when and under which policy your data can be shared with other people. Eddy covariance data submitted to the database are processed using standardized methods in addition to the versions that the PIs can submit.
SITES ALREADY REGISTERED in the database, under actual or previous projects, please don’t register again. It will be possible soon to update the information about your sites in the PI area.
Note: the fields with * are mandatory.
Site name and country will be used to generate a FLUXNET code for your site. Please indicate also the ecosystem type according to the IGBP classes definition.
Coordinates
The site coordinates are a fundamental information to identify the site, calculate top of atmosphere incoming radiation and extract remote sensing data and product for the pixel including the site. For this reason it is important to specify coordinates as much as possible accurate and with not less than four decimal digits. The coordinates must be expressed in decimal degrees, WGS84, using "." (point) as decimal separator and using negative numbers for West longitude and South latitude. Latitude range is from -90 to 90; longitude range is from -180 to 180.
Additional information
To better characterize the site it is useful to submit additional information about the climate and local topography such elevation, long term averages of air temperature (in Celsius degrees), precipitation, average slope (in degrees, 0 for flat terrain), average aspect (in degrees, only if there is a slope), prevailing wind direction (in degrees), mean water table depth (in meters) and number of days with snow cover.
Measurements
Please indicate which fluxes you are measuring / measured at the registered site, the method used and when the measurements start or end. These information are important to identify which data could be available and be involved in new activities and projects. These information are important to identify which data could be available and be involved in new activities and projects. If your measurements are still ongoing leave blank the ending year field.
For eddy covariance measurements it is important to specify also the measurement height because it is needed in the data processing. Please specify it in meters above ground using the point as decimal separator. If the measurement heights vary during the year indicate the average value (it will be possible to specify detailed information later):
PI and staff
The site Principal Investigator (PI) is the site responsible for the database. The PI can upload data and he is the person that receive download notifications and requests for download when the authorization is needed. The collaborators (up to 3) are indicated by the PI and they can also upload the data for the site and be contacted for questions about the data and the site. There are three collaborator types: Fluxes contact name for issues related to the measured fluxes, Biological, reference name for all the information about biomass, disturbances, LAI etc., and Ancillary that will be contacted for information about sensors, methods and general characteristics of the site. All these collaborators can be indicated and changed in the database "PI Area".
Projects
This database contains data from different research and monitoring projects. Some of these projects have dedicated interfaces to access the data and often some additional and project-specific data or information. If your site is part of one of these projects or if you think that the site you are registering could be interesting for one or more of these projects and would like to list it in the project specific interface/s please specify this here below. The data access will be decided on the basis of the project data policy and after discussing it with the project coordinator and database managers.
Final notes and submission
Thanks for the registration, we are convinced that the presence of your site in the database will give high visibility to your work. We invite you to submit also the data following the instructions that you can find in the Guidelines section of the site. The data submission would increase the number of contacts to you and the possibilities to be involved in future activities and projects.
We will immediately create the site in the database and an account for the PI that will receive an email with the details to access the PI area. For this reason it is important to verify again the PI email and we ask you to re-type it here before the submission. Looking forward to be in contact in future, if you have questions please contact us at the email address database@unitus.it.
